Film night. Rainer Werner Fassbinder - film screening and discussion
The second meeting of the "20th Century Cinema in Faces" series will take place in a new format: this time, we are preparing a screening of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's film "Fear Eats the Soul" followed by a discussion. The format changes, but the main focus remains — a careful look at cinema as a statement. Plus, we add what people usually come for: the opportunity to experience the film together and analyze it immediately while the impression is still "fresh."
It will be a "leopard house concert" — almost homely: a projector, a screen, a carpet, a bar, drinks, billiards, and an atmosphere where discussing cinema is easier and more enjoyable. The leopard symbolizes the genre: a bit of theatricality, a bit of play, and just enough irony to match Fassbinder's style.
After the screening, we will discuss why his films became inseparable from post-war Germany, how he transformed personal biography into material for films, and why his provocations work not as scandals but as precision. This meeting is a great introduction to Fassbinder for newcomers and a good reason to revisit his work for those already familiar.
The author and host of the series is Denis Segeda @denisegeda, an independent director, photographer, and cinematographer. He has been involved in cinema since childhood, with his works including the 37-minute film "Three Matches," highly praised by Anton Dolin. Denis studied with Dmitry Bykov, worked with Natalia Remish, led film discussions online and offline in Warsaw, taught shooting and editing to hundreds of people, and made over twenty films about the history and culture of the Netherlands for Russian-speaking expats. He is currently working on a documentary related to Andrei Tarkovsky's archive.
The project is organized by AEvent — we bring people together around art and create an environment for honest and attentive dialogue. To maintain the atmosphere, guests will be treated to a small buffet.
